MY car makes a strange noise like an electric motor or pump is running from the rear area of the car, maybe in the differential area. Could this be the ABS or traction control? Thanks for the help.

Hi billrich
What you hear maybe the fuel pump in the tank. Can you hear noise with car running in park? If so it is the pump. When tehy get age on them they start making noise. Is fuel filter less than 30K miles old? If not replace. Let me know

The car only makes this noise when turning a sharp turn either way as in a parking lot at slow speeds when the differential would be working. The fuel filter has been changed as was suggested earlier by another mechanic. Iwas thinking there may be something happening with the ABS or maybe traction control opening the differential in the turn, Do you know of any thing, It has a sensor or solenoid with wires plugged on on the front of the rear differential, What is it? Thanks.

Hi billrich
Have the answer, in a tight turn either way a moan, groan or pulsing noise may indicate pump, valve or clutch pack malfunction within the differential assembly. So to get rid of noise you will need to repair diff. Try draining and adding fresh lube VersaTrak Fluid GM P/N 12378514.
Hope this helps
