1996 Buick Regal transmission gear shift lever sticks when

Transmission problem
1996 Buick Regal 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

96 Buick Regal, Automatic, the shift leaver sticks when cold almost, to the point I can break it off if trying to shift it into drive. Had the car sence new, and has all ways been hard to shift into drive when cold but, was liveing in Texas and it never really got that cold their. Have moved to North Carolina and now its a nightmare it winter.

There must be a problem in the linkage. You may want to try spraying WD40 or some other lube to see if that helps.

Let me know what you find.

Where would you spray the WD40 it is a sealed system? Just to get to the end of the cable at the trans, you have to remove the air filter assembly and their is a sealed boot that covers the end of the cable. Under the dash you can see nothing that would interfear with the cable. By the way, this is a plastic sheilded cable so WD40 will not reach the inside cable if you spray if on it. The problem I am having can't be fixed with WD40, I don't think, because it would evaporate. Maybe a lite grease, or machine oil, but eather way I need to know where to look for the binding. Like at the stering wheel collum shifter, cable itself, maybe break interlock or transmission shift tower. Just need to know if some one has had the same problem, and what it was.
