Weird knocking noise

I have a 92 park avenue its got approx 350,000 kms on it. I recently hit the dicth with the car. A few days after hitting the ditch, the motor started a really loud knocking noise. It only knocks when its idling and stops when u rev up. What could be wrong?

Before assuming it's an internal engine knock, check all the pulleys for play, (including the water pump). A bad bearing, (i.E. Water pump), can make a knocking noise which the sound will amplify through the engine.
