Remote Keyless Entry

My remote would only lock the car. It would not unlock the doors or remotely start the car. I browsed thru the buttons on the dash & found one that said "Press the check mark to relearn remote key". I did that & it solved the problem. My question is "what caused the remote key to become "unlearned"? I am wondering if I can expect this to happen again.

Like all computer than can glitch and cause a the problem if it happens again then there is a problem either with the remove or the BCM.
