2001 Buick Lesabre service engine soon light

Would like to know why my service engine soon light came on. Sometimes it smells like oil. The car still run really good. Any suggestions?

Need to have it scanned for codes
most local part stores will scan it for free
codes will pin point the troubled area and the reason for the check engine
check under hood and intake manifold for coolant leak
check gas cap
