My 2000 Buick lesabre with 50,000 miles shifts very hard from park to reverse or drive but only when it cold out. Once the car is in gear it drives normal. The high idle speed seems okay, and the fluid level is full. If the car is warmed up it does not shift hard, only when the car is cold and the weather is pretty cold out. Any ideas?

Thanks.

My 2000 buick LaSabre had some what the same problem. I checked the fluid and it was on the brownish side so I changed the fluid and filter and all was well. I had 67K on it at the time and had never changed the fluid. For information, the inner axile joint on the driver side was worn causing my Buick to shimmy when it changed gears @ about 45 MPH after I changed the axile the shimming stopped. Hope this helps.

My 2000 Buick Park Avenue wasnt shifting terribly hard but it was rougher then when new from park, reverse, to drive, and even on hard acceling it would throw you back as it downshifted.

I took it to have it looked at and the culprit was the transmission fluid was bad. 75,000 miles on the car and never flushed. It was FILTHY.

Got it flushed, the car shifts now without noticing a movement at all.
