My Buick LeSabre seems to run on the highway and accelerate ok. At slower speeds, idling, and slowing down to stop the engine kills and I usually start it while rolling.
When I first start it cold it runs @ 1000-1100 RPM, and with no provocation races up to 2000RPM or more. Then it comes down.

I had an auto parts store put the car on a GM code reader; the readout said PO102 and below said MAF VAC.

The kid couldn't interpret exactly what it was. Do have a vacuum leak?

It could be a vacuum problem. Check all the lines for disconnects or splits. The idle speed control unit, ISC, may be what's causing the irratic idle. It may just have to be removed and cleaned with carb cleaner.
