1997 Buick Lesabre emmsions code

What does a 440 emmsion code mean. We fix on thing it goes along for 300 or so miles and get it agagin it ends up being a cracked rubber tube or so. It has happpened twice and this I reset. Doesn't run hot are anything

Can be any Emmissions part failure, inspection is needed.

Sir I didn have an inspection it passed then teh check engine light came on, and then I took it to have test run at advanced and recieved this 440. When you say inpection where besides to the looney farm should I go next.

By inspection, I don't mean the State inspection sticker, I mean you nead to have the emmissions checked with a scan tool that can command the parts to function, and or a smoke machine that detects leaks in the system, most garages can do these repairs. A P0440 is non descriptive of the exact part failure, so it is most likley a cracked part that is loosing pressure. Meaning a hose or plastic part. Inspection of these parts is what it needs!

Woll do. You guys are awesome got an older mechanic using hte computer you proved his oldschool concern was correct and he is going bit by bit fixing it one was a cracked hose.
