Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Buick Lesabre 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The car would shut down and then would not start.
Sometimes you could let it sit for a while and then it would start. When the check engine light came on the diasnotic check said the Cam Shaft sensor was bad. This was replaced and didn't help. Replaced the Crank Shaft sensor, ran for a month or two and began to do the same thing again. Replaced the Crank Shaft sensor again. Car ran for about two weeks and began shutting down and not cranking. Replaced the Computer, ran perfectly for a week and then while driving it shut down. I tried starting it about 7 times. When you stoppped trying to start it it would back fire. It finally started, I drove it home, about 3 miles. The next day it would turn over but would not start. The next day it started and I drove it for about 30 minutes, and while riding along it shut down as if it lost all fire. I sat or about 10 minutes and it finally started and I drove it home about 400 yards. It has been sitting since then. About 9 month ago it would not start and I replaced the coil pack and it ran good up until it started acting up again.

Have you checked the ignition module? When it doesn't start, have you checked to make sure it isn't getting spark?

Let me know.

Does the module have anything to do with it running.
The engine turns over but it does not fire and run. Maybe I did not give you the right info. Thanks

just to update you on the 91 Buick the ignition module comes in the coil pack that was replaced so it still does not start. I have a mechanic coming over tomorrow to adjust the Crank shaft sensor. He says he might not have tighten it enough when he replaced it 2 weeks ago. He was adjusted before and the car run good for a while then it begins shutting down while just driving along. Some times it would start and you could drive it for a while then the next time it shut down it would turn over but never fire up as thought there was no fire to the engine.
Thanks for any help
Earl

Yes. If it is bad, you won't get spark to the plugs. It is in the distributor. A small black plastic component.

If it was loose, then that could be the problem. It is to be set a certain distance so it can pick up a signal.

Let me know it that is the problem.

Hi Joe, Just to let you know the mechanic did not come today so I tried to see if it would crank. This is so rediculous, the 91 Buick started up and run like there was nothing wrong. So I just shut it off and went back to doing yard work, knowing that if I drive it it will do the same thing again. Why it would crank after sitting a couple of days in unreal
thanks again for your help

That figures. If he would have come out, he wouldn't have been able to check. However, I would still have him check it to see if the crank sensor has something to do with it.
