1989 Buick Electra reverse

I statrted my car and put it in reverse and it wouldn't go but when I put it in drive it went. I would like to know if this means the transmission giong out or is it something else. Also just yesterday I had a new pulley and waterpump put on so I could really use some help.

Check your fluid first, if it is brown or smells burnt the trans is probably toast. If it is low add to it. But it sounds like your one clutch pak is either no good or the seals are bad.
