Hi, I have a 1992 buick century limited. Mileage is 165,000. I think its a 4 cylinder, i'm not completely sure about that. Here is the problem. When ever the car is in idle or at a stop light for a few minutes, the check engine light comes on. Then it goes off as soon as I start driving again. I do have the oil changed every 3 months on schedule. Please give me some ideas on what the problem maybe, thank you. Laurie devisser

Look under the dash where the steering wheel is and you'll see a pin connector. Take a paper clip and insert it into the two upper right connectors. Make sure they're in good. Then turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF. The Check engine light will start to flash. It will flash Once. And then Twice to indicate a "12" which is diagnostics mode. There will be a short pause and the light will again flash any codes stored by the computer. When it begins to flash a "12" again then the diagnostics is complete. You can usually look up the internet to find what they mean.
