Brake pedal goes to the floor

Brakes were scrubbing like a deep grinding rather than the high pitched squealing sound. An inspection on Saturday determined it was front pads, rotor and front left axle at $600.00. Held off until I could see another mechanic on Monday. Took a 100 mile trip to Atlanta no problems. Monday another mechanic replaced all pads but all of a sudden he claims the master cylinder is bad because the brake pedal goes straight to the floor. This pedal has never gone straight to floor! I drove it in to see him with no problem. He sent me home with no foot pedal brakes but rather use the hand brake. The master cylinder will come in today. Is there something that could have been disconnected which would make that pedal go flush to the floor like that? I do not see how it is possible and I drive that car everyday.

Hello, I am Danny.

Well, I can only think of two things. Maybe 1) When the person changed the brake pads they opened a bleeder valve or brake line and introduced air into the system, or 2) When the pistons in the calipers were returned to their retracted positions (new brakes installed) there might have been a wear spot in the master cylinder and fluid is leaking internally in the master cylinder bore or past a seal. Regardless it needs to be corrected because no brakes are dangerous! Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.
