The brake dust shield rusted out on the back passenger side I have been checking around and asking and looking on the internet to see if you need to replace it and internet and YouTube say yes, but others say no. What I have read the purpose of the brake dust shield is to protect the brake from debris and salt in winter otherwise you're going to have damage brake is this true or can you go with out the brake dust shield and be okay what one is it can you tell so I can get it fixed.

Hello, you should have the brakes checked all around, just because if the backing plate has rusted out on one wheel, there is most likely going to be other components that have rusted out. So a basic safety check is in order. You don't want to end up with some other components either coming part or breaking, potentially causing a dangerous situation.
