I was driving my car to work this morning and had my defrosters on. Front and back window. Halfway through the drive I realized that my back window defroster shut off on its own. I tried pushing the button back in and it wouldn't stick. So, I continued driving, then I noticed that my brake and battery light both appeared. I have had this issue before and was told to get my alternator changed. So, I've had my alternator changed (this year) and the battery has been changed within the last 1 1/2 years. I have also had my starter changed amongst other things.

Hi,

It sounds like you still have a charging issue. Oftentimes, the alternators used are remanufactured. I don't know if that was the case, but they simply don't last.

Do me a favor. We need to determine if the alternator is doing its job. Follow this link for testing. All you will need is a voltmeter or a multimeter.

Try that and let me know the results.

Take care,

Joe

I had my battery and alternator tested today. They said my battery was not giving off the voltage that it needed to. So, I got a new battery, because they said that would solve the issue. After I got a new battery, I started my car, and the battery and brake lights are still on. The guy at AutoZone said that unfortunately it is probably an electronic issue and I have to go to a garage.

It could be a connection issue as well. Check to make sure the grounds from the battery are clean and tight. Also, try the test I provided to confirm the alternator is producing what it should.

Let me know the results. I have many other things up my sleeve to test but need to know what is happening at the battery itself. (Voltage when off and when running).
