Suspension problem
2005 BMW Z4 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 35000 miles

My girlfriend just bought a 2005 BMW Z4 2.5i. There is a definitive 'popping' noise vcoming from the engine compartment and wheel wells in the front of the car whenever she goes over speed bumps. I believe that the struts need to be tightened down, as this is a common problem for this model. I am told that this is an easy fix by simply tightening down the bolts at the top of the struts in the engine compartment. My question is... do I need a special torque wrench to do this and how do I know I am tightening them down to the right setting on both sides?

Your reply is appreciated.

If the attachments are bolts, 56nm and then 110 degrees of angle torque. If they are studs, 42nm. Also inspect for possible tearing at the strut tower attachment.
