2008 BMW X3 Compass mirror

Hi, bought X3 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I went to dealer to buy a rear view mirror with a compass buillt in. I asked a service tech if mirror needed any special wireing. He said to just remove old mirror, unplug from plug, and install new compass mirror and it will work. I did just that, turned on car and the compass in mirror did not turn on. Any suggestions other than having dealer install. Dealer will charge alot to do this. Thanks

I am unsure why you did not have the compass mirror as standard equipment. There are several reasons for the mirror not to work, the vehicle order may not support the mirror or the navigation system is not coded for the mirror. If you want this mirror functional you may well need to spend the $$$ at the dealer to get it working.
