5 speed manual locked up 4th gear while down shifting. Stick feels like in neutral - will not shift. Cluthch smell noted.

I guess it's time to pull the tranny. It sounds like the trans has selected fourth and then got the gate locked out, it may be as simple as tapping the trans out of the gear it is in. Let me know what you find, this is a new problem that I have not heard before, unless the car was involved in an accident.
