1987 BMW 528 acseleration

When I start my car it revs over 2000 rpm or more, I hit the gas padle and it drops low then gose hi again, what can I do to fix this problem?

A new idle control valve and an idle control unit. Part# for the unit is 13-41-1-286-133 and the valve is 13-41-1-707-395

Hi Dr Hagerty, Thank you for pinpointing the problem, I checked the idle control valve, clean inside it with a silicone spary. It fixed the problem. THANK YOU.
