I replace the blower motor resistor and the new one burned up after about 2 months. I kept the old one which worked off and on and replaced the new one after it burned. The old one when it works gets very very hot, is that telling me I have something else wrong? Do you know what else it could be, or is the new resistor bad and they are suppose to get hot?

The replacement unit might have been defective, and I have been seeing replacement units coming out of China that are just cheap knock offs. I will not install them in my customers cars. The final stage unit is supposed to get warm, but it should not get too hot to touch. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=NE53&mospid=48464&btnr=64_1355&hg=64&fg=40
67636988452 is the part you installed, correct?
I do not think there is something else wrong, but I want to start with eliminating the obvious and then we can work on what is next, OK?

Thank you for the information, I order a new one and put it in, it gets very hot and starts to smell, you can not touch it as it is to hot. I did run the motor with the resister outside the blower housing, does the blower cool it? I only ran it for about 2 mins.

It should not be generating an aroma, cooling is done from from the heat sink and air movement around the module takes care of that.
