1990 BMW 525i SHOCKS OR WHATR?

My wife 1990 525 just started riding rough, as though the shocks were gone. It bounces like the LINCOLN when the air ride system goes out. Somebody told me that there is module or somethng that controls the ride on the 5 series. What can she DO!!!

Probably could consider replacement of the rear shocks.
