Car not starting on first attempt when cold.

I own a 525I (2003) with 67K. Recently, it will not start on the first attempt, nor does it turn over. Sort of like when an alternator goes out, nothing happens. I am afraid it is the starter? However, it will generally start right up on the 2nd attempt and drive fine.
