We just bought the car. The dealer is getting us the manuals. The idrive system posted a warning that the oil was low. I added a quart of 5-30 synthetic oil. The notification reappeared after a few miles. I can't find a dipstick which is frustrating. I really don't want to keep adding oil if it is a faulty sensor but I also don't want to damage the engine. Is there a dipstick? I am used to all fluids bing marked in yellow or orange filler caps. Not on this car, they are all black.

There is no dipstick! BMW, in their infinite wisdom, have removed the dipstick and the oil level is monitored electronically. An `06 is under warranty and adding oil to it is probably not going to help. Call the dealer and schedule an appointment NOW! You have the option of towing the vehicle or having it towed by BMW roadside assistance if it is a safety issue or if you don't feel comfortable for any reason. Overfilling the engine with oil is not good either, which you may have done, and is not your fault, you have done nothing wrong.
