My car will start and do everything as it should, but it will not idol, I can push the gas pedal down it will stay on but when I am not pushing it down I will start the car and it will start for 5 seconds and shut off

The idle control valve can be adjusted. Try turning the screw out a few turns, if that does not work, it may need an idle control unit.
