Wife drove car home. Next morning, car wouldn't start. Key turns, but nothing happens. Key will no longer open doors electronically. Have tried to reinitialize, and even bought new key. Any ideas?

Hi Puffy1,

Thank you for the donation.

Have you checked the battery?

Did you try jump starting to see if it works?

I am not a specialist on this model and make and after some research, I could not find anything that you don't already know. Though our database has a lot of information but I am having troube disseminating them.

I have enlisted the help of our resident BMW specialist and hopefully he drops in early to have a look at the problem.

Thank you and sorry for not being of much help.

The no start problem will likely require a scan to detect the issue. As to the central locking issue.
Back to the no start issue, the drive away protection may likely be the problem. It is called EWS by BMW. There is an alignment between it and the DME (motor electronics) that the engineers call a handshake, if it is not aligned, it will not allow starter activation or spark or fuel injection. To realign these two you must seek out someone with the proprietary BMW software. Dealers are not the only ones that have this equipment, call around. The two issues seem to be coincidental, and perhaps not related. My esteemed associate was doing his best, I hope we can get you back to driving soon. Please keep us informed.
