2003 BMW 325 Power Steering just stopped working

I was leaving the gas station and noticed my steering just gave out. It was so hard to turn and I have no idea what is wrong. I mean obviously the power steering is out but I checked the fluid and it was almost full and clear but had a burnt smell! HELP PLEASE

Make sure the belt is tight enough on pulley, then while vehicle is running,
pull cap on pump and make sure the fluid is swirling in pump housing, if not pump is failing.
