Was the fault for the camshaft determined from the generic OBDII readout? It is difficult to perform an accurate diagnostic with some of the generic readers. Was the check engine light on? Have you noticed a reduction in performance recently? This may require the proprietary BMW software or some version of it, and someone who can analyze the information and possibly repair the issue. Of course the first step is to diagnose the problem correctly so that you can make an informed decision.
