1994 325i loud bangs !

My bmw 1994 enginge is running badly and loud backfires coming from the engine, the exhaust also gets very hot (glowing)
revs are eratic, high fuel consumption, could it be the injectors or somthing more serious.
The engine has done 75000 miles of careful driving, any ideas would be helpful

If the exhuast is glowing. The converter is damaged.
First you need to get the engine fixed! Too much unburned fuel getting into the exhaust! By now the check engine light, if it's working should be flashing. Thisa means there are codes present in the PCM!
You are only going to damage the Converters more by driving this car! Converters are VERY expensive for the ULTIMATE driveing machine! If you have kept up with Tune ups and warrantee repairs, You need at least 1 oxy sensor!
