1989 BMW 325ci rough idle

I just bought this car today. I was driving home and every other stop she would idle up and down. Others would be fine. She also died in reverse. I was driving slow in LA traffic and am not sure if that would affect her. I don’t know much about cars and am afraid of being ripped off at the mechanic.

Hi Lisa, Your idle issue could be just a simple adjustment. The M-20 motor in your car requires several things to be in order to idle smoothly, proper valve adjustment, clean and properly gapped spark plugs, a clean and properly adjusted throttle plate. I know what you mean about being ripped off at the mechanic, and I would like to recommend a shop in the L.A. Area.
