1987 BMW 325 Timing belt

I replaced the timing belt as well as the tensioner. I Crank the engine over twice by hand and the belt starts sliding off the camshaft sprocket towards the engine.

Where is it going to? Does it eventually come off? The belt might have a tendency to "center" itself. If the tensioner is new, and the belt is properly tensioned, the other pulleys are not bent or loose, then you have a problem that I have not yet been exposed to, and I don't quite know what advice to give you.

I realized that I did not bolt the cover and adapter on the camshaft sprocket for the distibuter when I put it back on after having the cyl. Head machined would this make the difference.

Yes, there you have it. Bolt it up and see if the issue goes away.
