2001 BMW 320 Heater works intermittently

I am having problems with my heater/blower. It comes on when I start first thing but goes off, comes on, goes of. It can be 5 minutes until it comes on again and sometimes it doesn't come on for almost the full journey. I have had the fan at low/medium & high, I have tried auto, I have tried air con but nothing brings it on and keeps it on.

This failure is pretty common in E46 BMW's, and most of the time its related to the final stage resistor for the blower motor.

The symptoms are that your blower motor comes on when you start the car, and the speed at which its at is sporadic.

Step 1 - A heater cannot operate unless the engine is full of coolant/antifreeze. If coolant level is low check the system for leaks.
