1995 BMW 318 shock replacement

My front left shock is leaking and needs replacing.
Is this something which can be simply done without the need for coil compression tools and the like?

No, it does require a spring compressor and air tools, you could replace them both with a cheapo spring compressor from pep boys or kragen, just be careful my friend and do them one at a time so you dont get confused. ♥
