1992 BMW 318 Car Sputters in lower RPM

Hey I have a 318i with 15700 miles. The problem im having is when ever im accelerating the car boggs down and looses power around 1500 rpm and again at 4000 rpm in all gears. Other than that it runs smoothly. It holds a good idle also. It sounds like the door in the mass air flow sensor is slamming shut also. I have replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the intake, and it still hasnt changed- any suggestions? Possibly the Mass Air Flow?

Before your start throwing $$$$ at it, lets find out what it is first. I recommend testing fuel pressure and delivery first and look in the door sill for any campaign stickers, there was one for changing the intake cam timing for this issue. Air mass maybe, I wouldn't know from here. If you have one to replace it with for testing.
