The mode one works, but the hot cold does not. I do not care to pay to replace it. Is it possible to lock it in the hot position so I have defrost in the winter?

Unfortunately, you will need to remove the old actuator and then secure the door in the position you want but if you are going to do this, you might as well replace it with a new one. Then it is operating properly.
