Blend Door Actuator only blows extremely hot?

Suddenly the air system only blows extremely hot air no matter which vent or whatever or whether or not the AC is in use. I've been told the blend door actuator needs to be replaced and that the dash has to come out.

Does it do this one just one side or both, this truck does have dual climate control, correct? If it is dual climate the driver side actuator you can replace without removing the HVAC plenum. For the passenger side and the "one zone" temperature blend door the entire heater plenum will need to be replaced. 4.6 hours labor time @ shop rate plus the AC service.

The vehicle does not have dual climate control. There is a control knob on the driver's side that controls the air flow to the dash vents and AC start/stop. Individual buttons to control defrost, up and down vent usage, et. At the passenger end of the dash there is a dual knob. One is a variable hot/cold to control the temperature of the air exiting the vents. The other is for Max AC.
My belief is that the bad actuator is the one positioning the blend door controlling the flow of hot air and that it is stuck wide open. Would I be correct? Secondly, how many actuators should be on my model Frontier and what do they do? Also, could it be that the hot/cold control knob is somehow not sending open/close input as it is rotated and there is no bad blend door actuator?

Okay, then there is just one blend door actuator for the temp, if you hear a clicking noise chances are the actuator is bad, (very common). I see that the air mix actuator is no top of the plenum, you might be able to sneak in there and replace it by removing the center radio and HVAC controls to replace it. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes.
