There’s a beeping noise every time I drive and stops whenever the car is not moving, such as when it is parked or at a stop light. When I turn the car on it says service required and shows the hood of the car blinking. I’ve tried to figure out what the issue is but had no luck and I can’t take it to certain mechanics because I need to know what the is first apparently.

Hi,

If the hood is blinking, are you sure it isn't open? That is the purpose of that light.

Also, this vehicle is still under warranty for most everything electronic. I would first check the hood to make sure it is fully closed. If it is, I would suggest contacting a dealer.

If that can't be done, drive the vehicle to a parts store and have them scan the computer for diagnostic trouble codes. Most will do it free of charge.

If you do this, write down the codes and let me know what they are.

Let me know.

Joe

Hi, thank you for getting back to me. Yes, I’ve opened and closed the hood a few times because I thought that was the issue at first. Unfortunately, I can’t get to the dealer, but I believe I can go to a parts store. I’m fairly close to an AutoZone so I’ll be sure to get there ASAP.

Hi,

It sounds like a plan. Also, check to make sure the hood ajar switch wasn't disconnected by accident. See pic 1 for location.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe

I’ll definitely check that first thing tomorrow morning. I went to AutoZone and they said that there’s nothing wrong with it and that there could just be a sensor issue.

Hi,

Interesting that there is nothing wrong with it, but it could be a sensor. So, something is wrong. LOL

Take care of yourself and let me know what you find. I'm interested in knowing.

Take care,

Joe

I found out the problem. It’s my hood sensor switch. I looked up my owner's manual and it was saying that if the hood isn’t closed all the way or if the switch needs to be replaced my car will beep if I’m going more than 2 mph. So now I just have to figure out where to go to find the correct switch for my car.

Hi,

The switch is integral to the hood latch assembly. Kia's part number is 81130M7000.

Here is the good news, it should be covered under the 5-year 60K basic warranty. I would recommend contacting a Kia dealer near you for confirmation. It should be a free-of-charge repair. Otherwise, you are going to have nearly a hundred dollars in the part and the time to replace it.

Let me know how things turn out for you.

Take care,

Joe
