Have you checked fuel pump pressure to make sure the regulator is working and not allowing too much pressure to build? Have you checked the coolant temp sensor which could cause the computer to run the engine rich if it thinks it's colder outside than it is?

No I didn't check the fuel pressures. If I disconect the wire that goes to the temperature sender the check engine lite comes on if I plug it back in the lite goes off so does that mean the temperature sender is good?

No, that doesn't mean it's good. What can happen is this. If the sensor is sending an incorrect signal, the computer doesn't know it's wrong and accepts is as accurate. Regardless, I would start by checking pressure.
