Automatic shifter stuck in park, but car in neutral

I put my car into park, which the shifter moved to. However, the car remained in neutral. No matter what I did, the shifter would no longer move. When I depressed the “trigger” on the shifter with my foot on the brake, the shifter would not move. Why is this happening? Any information would be deeply appreciated.

Make sure your brake lights work. Check for any trouble codes then try this brake shift interlock override.

Hello,

This sounds like you lost the shift cable. Have someone watch the transmission gear selector arm while you move the shifter to confirm the issue here is how to change the shift cable out.
