Hi, Ive just purchased Audi TT (225BHP). After a week the engine management system icon appeared on the dash, flashing for five seconds. Initially this only occurred when firm acceleration was required, however after a short period the engine management icon is displaying as a steady light. Although, the car is being returned for further examination by the seller, I am not so confident that they have the necessary skill or knowledge to make a correct diagnosis - it would be good to point them in the right direction.

The flashing light is because the engine is misfiring and stays on because you now have codes stored for them.
You'll need a scan tool to read and clear the codes. 9/10 chance that the car has one or more ignition coils failing causing those cylinders to misfire under load.
The best route would be to replace all four and not just the bad coil(s).
