Computer problem
2001 Audi A6 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 56k miles

I have transmission problems on my Audi. Every approx 5 min of driving or key on time the transmissio goes to "limp home mode" It drops out of 5th gear and lets me drive in 4th and lower. Stoppeng the car and restarting it fixes the problem for a few minutes and then it occurs again.

The Error code says P0605 Powertrain control Unit read only memory error.

Do I need a new PCU? Whwere is it located? Is it in the same box as the engine control unit?\

I am pretty experienced with electronics, I would like to do a visual inspection before I spend big $.

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

Unfortunately, if this code is appearing then you will have to replace the motronic engine control module (ECM). The ECM is located in the electronic box, on the left side of the fresh air plenum.

If you would like replacement instructions for your ECM then let me know.

Please note that you will need special diagnostic scanning tools to properly train the new ECM to your vehicle as well as perform several tests with the new ECM so it will be programmed correctly.

Hope this helps.
