Hi mate, I am about to replace the rear discs on my audi a6. How meny retaining bolts secure the calliper. There is also an allen key bolt on the lower aspect of the calliper. Do I have to release this and the bolt at the top to remove the calliper? Is the bolt at the top 16mm? I will be grateful if you can assist me. Cheers, Dingo.

There are 2 bolts, I believe both must come out. I know the front brakes take a 7mm allen bit, don't remember about the back. However, on the back brakes, the piston needs to rotate as it is compressed! There are notches in the face of the piston that are intended to help create both rotation and inward pressure.

Get a caliper piston compression tool! Many parts stores offer them for loan or rent. I bought one for $7 U.S. It attaches to a standard ratchet.
