I tried to remove the anti-theft module while it was running but after it tripped the alarm and won’t stay running. I followed what the manual said but it won’t run. Do I need to replace the ECU and the Body Control units, and can I bypass the alarm when I do so?

Hi,

It sounds like you did it correctly. If you aren't replacing it, it has to be disconnected with the engine running.

Let's try something. See if there are any diagnostic codes that may help us. Here is a link that explains how to retrieve them:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/retrieve-trouble-codes-for-chrysler-dodge-plymouth-odb1-1995-and-earlier-car-mini-van-and-light-trucks

Let me know what you find. Also, just to confirm, it was the module above the glove box, correct?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

Are you having issues with idle speed? As far as the dash and interior lights are concerned, do you have a digital dash?

Let me know. Also, let me know if any of the lights are working in the vehicle.

Sorry for the delay, my internet went down and so I didn't get the message till now. Yes, I am having issues with the idle speed. The screw for the AIS is rounded out and I have not had a chance to get it out. As far as lights, the parking and headlights are working. Nothing inside the car. The light on the HVAC unit also dims when I turn the lights on.

The idle is really fast, like 1,800 according to the test unit. The car sat and had the battery drained, I tried the coasting at highway speed multiple times, but it has not lowered the Idle. Do you think that that may have caused the problem when I went to remove the Alarm control unit because it was not at standard idle?

Hi,

I don't feel you caused any damage by doing what you described. It's right in my manual saying to do it. As far as the lights being dim, have you checked the grounds?

Let me know.

Joe, thank you for your help! I had to go out of town for work and I wasn't able to pursue. It was a blown fuse! I checked the incorrect one at first. Thanks again.

Hi,

No problem whatsoever. I'm glad to hear you got it fixed. Now, hopefully, you will have a chance to enjoy it a bit. LOL

Take good care of yourself, and please feel free to come back anytime in the future. You're always welcome here.

Joe

PS: Thanks for the flashback. I still remember working on them. I still have my 88 Lebaron Conv that I purchased new. 9,000 miles. LOL
