Anti theft light flashing

The anti theft light was flashing this morning when trying to start the car. It wouldn’t turn over or anything. We tried disconnecting the battery but that didn’t work, and we tried manually entering the car with the key, and that didn’t work either. We had it towed to our local ford dealership. What could be the problem?
