About 3 weeks ago I replaced the alternator because it literally made the battery bubble. Now after the alternator has been replaced some more problems have arisen.

1. The car now idles at about 1-1.5k
2. The car pings and knocks when I accelerate.

Normally I would think throttle position sensor or knock sensor but to have both go at once seems a bit coincidental.

Has anyone got any thoughts?

Actually, the throttle position sensor has nothing to do with idle speed. It simply tells the Engine Computer the speed and direction of throttle movement. Both of the symptoms you described are commonly caused by a vacuum leak. That will cause an increase in engine speed without a corresponding increase in power, and a lean condition burns too quickly and can result in a knock. I'd look for a loose or cracked vacuum hose first.
