Can I put a 1998 alternator into a 1997 car?

I sometimes do this when I am junk yard looking for a cheap, get by part.

Go online to a auto parts store.

Run each cars information into their base (one at a time).

Look up the alternator (or whatever).

Note the "Brand" and Part number.

After you have done this with both vehicles, if the brand and part numbers match,

you have a winner.

Of course if they match on the parts store's data base, this means the part is interchangeable between those two years (as far as the brand, or where it came from should not matter in real life!)
