98 Contour ALT. Removal

98 Contour LX Automatic with the DOHC V-6. Does the bracket holding the alternator need to be removed from the block to remove the upper alt. Mounting bolt? I've removed 2 bolts holding the bracket to the block and can see/feel no others to be removed, yet it still won't come free. The upper bolt on the alt. Seems impossible to remove. Thanks

I'll answer my own question. The upper bolt is a bear to remove. I found it easiest and I use that term loosely, to remove the coil pack and work from above to remove the top bolt. This bolt is mega tight. 13mm flex socket, 3 inch extension, flex joint, 20 inch extension. Thread the extension between the back of the motor and the wiring harness box which you must also remove. If you have a helper, have them hold the socket and extension on the bolt from underneath the car to keep it from torqueing off the bolt. Good luck
