Hey. My car has been doing this since I got it 6 years ago. When it's cold out (-10, -15 Celcius or below) I only get 2nd and 3rd gear. These have to be manually selected in 2 or 3 respectively. Once the car warms up a bit and it's shut off then restarted. The tranny starts shifting properly. No one has a clue whats wrong. Any ideas?

it's a 97 grand am 3.1 auto.

Hey chevy.I haven't done a thing to fix it. Figured it would either throw a code eventually or blow up. But has never done anything different than described. Been to all the tranny shops in my town to see if they had any clue and the only answer I got was "leave itoutside here overnight and we will check it out". Well sorry.I work and have a family. Can't really leave my sole means of transport overnight. Not to mention it doesn't have this problem all the time. Even when it's really cold sometimes it works normally.

Anyway. Appreciate the reply.
