Hello. I drive a 1995.5 RodeoLS with just over 180K miles on it. Just yesterday, after a short drive, I noticed loss of power and the "check transmission" light came on. I parked and turned off the engine. When I tried to restart, the engine would not turn. It was as if the battery had no juice(you crank it but all you get is a slight starting noise then just several clicking noises). Headlights were dim. After a while, I tried starting and it started, however, it ran so bad.. like it was struggling to move even when floored. The next day, tried starting and it ran like nothing happened the night before. After a while, when I turned the A/C on, it started to drag again and all electricals quit!!! NO A/C, no signal lights and windows struggled to close. This time, the "check transmission light did not light up (dont know if this is because there was no elec to light it). Also, the speedometer and tachometer were not working. The lights which indicated PRND32L did not have lights. When put the Rodeo in park, the engine idles very high. Drove the truck back home and it would run almost ok at higher speeds but would drag when I accelerated from a full stop. The drag was like when you put a manual on 4th gear and try to drive it from full stop. Tried to start again but it was dead. WHAT HAS HAPPENED??? Never had it do this before and it was all so sudden. What can I do? I love my Rodeo.

Check for a badly won or broken timing belt, also check alternator, check for loose ground or shorts

Timing belt was just replaced no more than 2 yrs ago along with water pump and belts. Changed battery and found it not charging. Confirmed this with shop. Got new (actually remanufactured) alternator which my friend helped me replace. Rodeo's running great again. Thanks for the help.
