My driver side automatic shoulder belt does not retract to the "driving" position. The hinges are shot could this be the problem? Or is there a sensor that tell when the door is shut and lets the seat belt retract?

Which "hinges" are you talking about

Far as I remember the 'sensor' so to speak is the same switch that tells the dome light to come on when the door is open. Long as that's working the seatbelt should work as well. Been awhile since I had auto seatbelts. 81 Bronco's don't have that feature! HA!

Both door hinges are sagging. I will try the little plunger that operates the dome light and see if that is it. When a person lifts up the door and shakes the hinges the seat belt starts to click, so I thought that maybe there was a conection between the two.
