92 Tempo GL Engine Idles High

I recently installed a new distributor into my 92 Tempo GL.

The car was running fine before the installation, but now it doesn't want to go when I accelerate. Also, the engine idles very high, and the engine overheats as a result.

Does anybody have an idea what's causing the high idle and the poor acceleration?

Is that engine ovrhead cam? Barring another sudden issue happening, most likely something is, was not 100% aligned when you inserted the distributor, maybe you should r & r the thing, make sure all your ducks are lined up in a row. Xometimes retarded timing will cause the engine to run hot, or is it possible you left something in the engine compartment out of place, unhooked?

Hi. Have you tried changing the idle stop solenoid? I had the same problem with an 85 tempo. It would rev high and you just pounded the solenoid a couple of times and it would rev normally. Try replacing that
