87 300e cutting off and weird noise in right REAR

I just bought a 1987 Mercedes 300e with over 200,000 miles on it and it runs great. Accept just today when I drove it the car started and drove and then cut off suddenly - twice. Hasn't done it since. Also, there is a weird hissing like noise coming from the back of the car. You can hear it inside and outside -- louder outside. Appears to come from the right rear side of the car. I think that these problems are related. Can someone help me with what this is? Has anyone had this problem before? Is it the fuel pump? If so, how much cost to repair? Please Help!

My 98 300e does the same thing. It started off once or twice a week then once or twice a day. I need to know, does it take about 30 sec. Of waiting before it will start back up? It seen to be electical for it cuts off with no warning as if I cut it off with the key. Then it wont start back up for about 20 - 30 sec. And its fine. Till it happens again. It can be sitting, driving at any speed, or running for 2 - 30 min beore its does it. PLEASE let me know if you found out whats causing it.
I dont think your noise has anything to do with this. That sounds like a small hole in you exaust.
